Some river overlay geometry used by The Visual Geographer is derived from OpenStreetMap data. The river dataset is mixed-source, so this notice does not apply to every river.

Indian State and Union Territory boundaries

Survey of India

Indian State and Union Territory boundary highlights use exact source-derived geometry from Survey of India digital boundary data. Separately classified interstate disputed geometries remain neutral and are not assigned to a State or Union Territory.

Source: Survey of India, Government of India.

This digital map implementation proceeds under the Government of India Guidelines for acquiring and producing Geospatial Data and Geospatial Data Services including Maps, dated 15 February 2021.

The raw Survey of India source master is not offered as a user-facing download.

Country boundaries

Natural Earth

Country boundary highlights used by The Visual Geographer include Natural Earth 5.1.1 Admin-0 Countries data. The India country-level outer boundary remains Natural Earth's India POV variant and is separate from the Survey of India State/UT layer.

The project's boundary registry records these datasets as public-domain.

Other datasets
